I have a bit of a confession that I am happy to own up to. When I read that this week's recipe pick from Melissa of Its Melissa's Kitchen was for the Chocolate Pudding I was both excited and, honestly, not that excited. You see, I recently made a homemade Chocolate Pudding, and it just wasn't that good. I felt like I wasted the ingredients. It was too thick and it just wasn't, well, all that I dreamed it would be - partly I think it was due to too much melted chocolate.
So, on the one hand, I was excited to try again with this recipe from Dorie and to be making something chocolate this week, but I was also afraid of another let down in the pudding department.

Well - no disappointment here. I can't begin to tell you how very, very, very good this recipe is. If you like chocolate even a little, or if you like pudding only a little, well, this would be the recipe that could forever convert you into wanting to eat bowlful after bowlful. It is THAT GOOD.
I had planned to make mine into a pie, because that was always the way I liked it best - as in, I haven't had a pudding before that could stand up to what I wanted it to be on its own. That was before. Honestly, I ended up devouring one whole serving still warm from the pot. After that I made two 3/4 cup ramekins and put the rest into popcicle molds. Those are still freezing so I'll have to let you know how they turn out later. I also later ate some more after giving the pudding a chance to set up abd even dipped in a few of the chocolate sable wedges from our zoo picnic the other day. Still really, really goooood - the pudding and the cookies.
OK, enough raving and ranting from me - make sure to go and check out what all the other Tuesdays with Dorie fabulous folks are up to this week! (And get the book already! You need it!)
UPDATE! Look! Pudding Pops! And they ROCK!!!
FYI - I won the popsicle mold at a raffle, but you can get them from Amazon too -
they have tons of other cute molds on there too!

Pie, popsicles, straight from the bowl...it all sounds great! Glad it wasn't a disappointment!
I made mine into a pudding pop as well. But I haven't eaten it yet.
Glad that this was all you hoped it would be and more.
Glad to hear that you were not disappointed. I agree this recipe is worth to try.

Ooo - pudding pops and pudding with chocolate sables both sound fabulous!
I just love all the little research bits you do...how fun was that to get to compare two recipes for the same product so close together? Always fun to compare, isn't it? Great photos...you are so wonderful at photos and posts! And the food...well, lovely, just lovely.
Wow, that color is gorgeous! Must. Try. Sables.
Oh yum...with the sables? YUM.
Yum, popsicles. How perfect. Hope they turn out well and glad you found a good recipe. I liked this one too.

Mmmm that looks so good. Please mail me a pudding pop when they come out of the freezer.
oh sweet bejeebus~ I use to be a pudding pop addict. When I was a kid, I'd clinch right up in excitement every time Bill Cosby came on with his sweet sweet commercial. I'd sneak them out of the freezer and hide the sticks in my sock drawer. I was odd even then, right?
Thank you because honestly? I'd never have thought to freeze the pudding to make my beloved pudding pops. I'm brain dead like that...
ooh, the pops look delicious! and i'm glad you liked this pudding recipe so much more than the other one. this one was my first try at homemade and i loved it :)

I thought about making pudding pops, too, but by the time I came up with the idea, all the pudding was gone. I guess I'll just have to make more... =)
I love the pudding pop idea. How clever!
Give pudding pops now! How is it that you are always so beyond skilled? What would I have to bribe you with to get you to come live in my kitchen?
Oooh, pudding pops! you definitely get a gold star for that idea.
It all looks fantastic!
pudding pops...very cute. Yep this one was definitely worth raving about!
I am so getting popsicle molds! I have to make room in my freezer though, or get a bigger freezer! Isn't it great when a recipe is better than we expected? :)
