TWD: Four-Star Chocolate Bread Pudding



Lauren at Upper East Side Chronicle chose the Four Star Chocolate Bread Pudding for this week's Tuesdays with Dorie.

I made a loaf of Challah to use for my bread pudding.  I made a half recipe using two 4x4 pans. I cut and toasted my Challah, as Dorie suggests, and thought it took to the pudding quite nicely.  I did add a little extra bread though just to be extra sure that the custard was soaked up.  

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the recipe.  Sadly, I am not much of a bread pudding fan to begin with, so I was mostly expecting not to like this at all.  As it turns out, I did like it.  I can't say I loved it, because this just isn't really my thing, but it was good.  

What I can say though, from my friends who love bread pudding, is that they thought this was amazing.  They raved that it was incredible, so there you go!

It looks fabulous! I, like you, am not bowled over by bread pudding. This one, though, looks unique. I think I am seriously interested in making that challah bread though. It is an absolute favorite of mine!

Goegeous challah! I am a fan on vanilla custard bread pudding, but I really liked this one too. It was even better drizzled with chocolate sauce or cream anglaise!

It's so funny how many of us don't care so much for bread pudding.

It looks great, Holly. I bet it was really good with homemade challah and that ice cream. YUM.

Your challah looks wonderful! Sorry the bread pudding wasn't your favorite. It was my first time trying it and I was surprised by how much I liked it!

Holly, how on earth could you ruin that great Challah with all that chocolate?????? LOL. Just kidding, it does look really really good. But, the Challah is making me drool with envy. Beautiful presentation!

What beautiful bread, Holly! It's kind of a shame to have torn it up to use in this pudding - considering neither of us LOVED it - but yours really does look good!

Beautiful bread pudding and beautiful challah. I don't think I could have cut that loaf up and let it go stale, it just looks too good!

I'll take that ice cream drizzled with chocolate in your pictures instead of the bread pudding. No really, I liked it, too, but didn't LOVE it. Don't really know if I'll ever make it again, but I AM glad I did make it and I did LIKE it. I flavored mine with orange chocolate and almonds and it was good! Love your homemade challah!
