TWD: Cocoa Nana Bread

You would think, with my penchant for all things chocolate, and adding in the fact that I love bananas, that this bread would have been a total hit for me. Well, the Cocoa Nana Bread - a 'quick' bread (mixes quickly, but takes a considerable amount of time to bake up) concoction of cocoa, chocolate, bananas and other similar ingredients to banana bread - was chosen by Steph of Obsessed with Baking. This week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe, sadly, was not my favorite. I liked it fine - but I just didn't love it. I'm really not sure why. It wasn't too dry, too moist, too banana-y or too chocolatey (as if that could happen). It was just kind of *meh* for me. Really, really weird reaction - and it still has me confused.

The batter itself was easy and even fun to make. A joy to work with and behaved exactly as I expected it to. No problems whatsoever. It just wasn't my thing right now.

I blame it totally and solely on my pregnant taste buds and the mood I was in when I made it or something because I'm really and truly stumped as too why I didn't want to just devour this whole loaf. I think that this recipe is definitely worth a try, and once I've got some time and/or energy back once we settle into a routine after the baby is here that I will have to revisit this.

Be sure to check out the other TWD Bakers and see what they thought.

Oh I wish I could dive into that cake and pull back a slice like a duvet. Looks heavenly.

Sorry you didn't like this... My coworkers were all over this one, so I had to fight to get a little nibble...

I wasn't wild about this either-I think it needed more banana.

It looks fabulous, though!

Too bad you did love it. It looks so moist and chocolatey!

It sounded kind of meh to me as well, and I didn't want to waste my good chocolate on something that I might not like, so I didn't even make it.

Guys here liked it, but not Top 5 or anything. They thought it was just the right amount of bananas for just the right amount of chocolate, whatever that means. Yours looks great. Maybe sans baby on board you would have liked it better! Eager to hear that the baby has arrived!

Initially, I felt the same way, but on the second day I thought this was much better. A little bit more of the banana flavor came through and toned down the chocolate. Not one of my favorite but not bad.

I thought the loaf was "meh" too. I think the elements fought each other. Yours looks beautiful.

Oh! Send the extras my way :) I blame the tastebuds too... I mean, the top crust is just irresistible!

I think this loaf couldn't commit...it needed to be more like chocolate cake or more like a banana bread. I liked it but sometimes meeting in the middle is kind of meh.

ooh, yours looks so dark and chocolatey! I didn't love this, either. I think I want to try it without the bananas. Cuz I love chocolate "bread!"

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't love this recipe! Like you said, it wasn’t bad. I guess I’ve just come to expect a certain “wow factor” to all Dorie recipes. ;-)

It seems that this one was just "meh" for lots of people so you definitely weren't alone. Your loaf looks gorgeous! I made muffins and I liked them, but definitely not among my favorite TWD recipes.

I loved this bread and I'm so surprised there are so many take-it-or-leave-it reactions. I really love the bitter flavor of cocoa powder and I used a beautiful Swiss cocoa powder, which may have made a difference. Either way, yours looks lovely and makes me want to go make another loaf.
