Growing up, I always wanted to have a garden. Unfortunately, in the area of Wyoming where I grew up, about the only thing that wanted to grow was sagebrush. Not so helpful for growing, or at least so I thought. Frankly, we never really tried - just figured it wasn't going to work.
Since moving to Utah, I've long wanted to give this dream another shot, but never really got around to it. Thanks to my packet of Survival Seeds from HOMETOWNSEEDS.COM I think this is the year. The package comes with a generous assortment of seeds that will grow an assortment of veggies that will provide a bounty of a harvest throughout the year - and hopefully I don't screw it up! :)

andrea j, Gardening tip that I have heard. To keep snails out of your garden, surround your garden perimeter with tide liquid detergent;)
My dad always had a garden.
The soil here is mostly rock and clay, so I made my own container gardens...out of kiddy swimming pools.
After drilling holes for drainage, we put some window screening in the bottom to keep the grubs out.
I heart gardening.
Our new house in Eagle Mountain is on an acre and has tons of space for a garden!
I tried here in Kansas a bit, but those pesky rabbits kept eating things. I even had some jalapenos, they were growing so beautifully, I even thought one day that I'll just wait another day or so then pick them. The next morning, the entire plant was eating to a stub in the ground! We concluded it couldn't have been rabbits that did that, but maybe coyotes or deer. We've been warned of lots of animals in EM and we'll have to put up fencing around a garden!
We started growing a garden several years ago - tomatoes, squash, eggplant, cantalope, cukes. This year we added sweet corn and several hundred hills of watermelon. Farmer's Market!!!
We put garden fabric down to keep the grass under control Sure helps with keeping the garden clean. Marigolds between the maters keeps the insects down.
Any of the herb seeds would be great, but I would love to try some spinach and lettuce. So many salads, so little time.

I would love to have an Herb Garden also and it looks like Hometown Seeds has all the herbs I could want!
I grew up gardening and hated pulling weeds! Tried square foot gardening last year and it didn't work very well for us. This year we are going to plant a garden using great big yellow mineral block buckets that we are getting from my father-in-law who is a rancher. We can't dig up the yard where we live but there is a rock border around the enter west facing backyard, so the buckets should work well :)
Visited Hometown Seeds. I love the idea of this survival seed kit, but I also absolutely adore perennial flowers and wish that I had somewhere that I could plant some! The lupines, foxglove and hollyhocks are beautiful

I'm not sure what kind of tips I could give you, but as far as gardening goes, I've always had an interest in it. I've always wanted to grow my own vegetables! My new home would allow me to do just that.
I don't have any tips because I'm no gardening expert, but I do know the square-foot gardening thing has worked well for my parents and I'm anxious to try it!
Visited the site and focused on the perennials--I love the Forget-me-nots and would enjoy having those in my flower beds!
I'm a wanna be gardener and my garden is never as good as I want it to be. I always have problems--sometimes insects, sometimes animals, and sometimes it's just neglect, but every year we plant and in the end it's always worth it. Good luck with your garden!
Brody wanted to plant some flowers and vegetables to give to his teachers. We went and picked them out at Home Depot. Carrots, Marigolds and Zinnias. We are on day 7. Nothing has sprouted yet. He is waiting, ever so not patiently.
Before this stint, I really have no major gardening experience. My Dad was a huge gardener when I was a child. He planted everything. Flowers, veggies, trees, fruit, etc... I think I have been turned off for a long time on gardening because of all the 'weeding' we did as kids in my Dads garden. But, Brody shows interest. So, I am willing to give it another go. After all, I have kids who can weed now. ;)
OH, I'm so excited about my garden this year. We've carved out a new spot that has more sun and I can't wait! So far my favorite thing to grow is cucumbers. They taste INCREDIBLE homegrown. Seriously...AMAZING! I haven't figured out any tricks yet. Though there are some incredible ideas posted so far!
I'm all about the fresh herbs, so that would be my favorite...the seeds I'd pick.

All I can grow are herbs. I love the money saved and the flavors added but having my own little herb garden on the patio!
Thanks for the fun giveaway. All the produce looks great but I think I'd stick with the herbs because they're quick and easy and will grow through our horrible AZ summers!

I have actually been really into gardening... but vertically. I live in a apartment so gardening is not something I can do as much of as I'd like. But I am looking into growing tomatoes and herbs. Maybe lettuce and spinach or cucumbers. Just something to get the gardening ball rolling!
we have planted tomatos every year since we moved into our house - with different rates of success. Each year we have to deal with a different problem - heat, cutworms, blossum rot ....
I looked at hometownseeds.com -- I think this year I would like to try their herb seeds in pots on the balcony (where there are less bugs) -- especially the different types of basil!

I would most like to grow a vegetable garden. I'd love to have a fresh selection of my own and not get the grocery store to find them out of a certain vegetable I was counting on for my menu!

My tip is compost! It isn't difficult, you send less to the landfill and it really is great for mixing into next year's garden. Our only issue is we don't generate enough compost for our growing gardens!
